On 30 October 2026, SEAMEO STEM-ED joined fellow SEAMEO Centres in Thailand in welcoming Her Excellency Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, Brunei Darussalam, and SEAMEO Council President, to the SEAMEO Secretariat in Bangkok.

Following the opening remarks by Datuk Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim, Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat, and the SEAMEO Council President, the Secretariat presented an overview of SEAMEO’s strategic directions and the Secretariat’s programmes. The session featured collaborative presentations from SEAMEO Centres in Thailand—SEAMEO SEPS, SEAMEO SPAFA, SEAMEO STEM-ED, SEAMEO RIHED, SEAMEO TROPMED Network and SEAMEO TROPMED Thailand—highlighting shared achievements and joint priorities across education, science and culture.

Representing SEAMEO STEM-ED, Dr Kessara Amornvuthivorn, Centre Director, presented the Centre’s strategic direction and ongoing collaborative initiatives centred around four key pillars: instructional capacity and educational leadership; STEM career education and future skills; STEM learning and climate action; and high-quality learning resources and publications.

Key collaborative highlights included:

  • STEM Education Leadership for Change (SELC) Programme: Empowering educational leadership and fostering robust organisational learning networks.
  • Unplugged Computational Thinking Initiative: Advancing foundational computational skills through accessible, collaborative hands-on activities.
  • Make IT Matter: Bridging AI and STEM learning through real-world, impact-driven problem-solving projects.

Dr Kessara’s presentation strongly emphasised expanding regional synergy through active partnerships with Ministries of Education, joint research initiatives, and the open sharing of learning resources.

The visit concluded with a reaffirmed collective commitment from all participating SEAMEO Centres to deepen regional cooperation, drive innovation, and foster sustainable educational advancement across Southeast Asia.
