Official Visit of SEAMEO STEM-ED Board Members to National Science Museum

26 September 2024 ─ SEAMEO STEM-ED's Governing Board Members and representatives, led by Dr Kritsachai Somsaman, SEAMEO STEM-ED Centre Director, embarked on an insightful visit to the National Science Museum (NSM), where they were warmly welcomed by Dr Ganigar Chen, the vice president of NSM, and other key officials. Dr Chen began her presentation with an introduction to NSM, detailing its mission to promote scientific literacy and innovation. She emphasised that "STEM education is the foundation of critical thinking and passion for lifelong learning of citizens everywhere." Dr Chen guided the attendees through the museum’s vision, as well as its previous and future collaborations both nationally and internationally. She also provided an overview of the various museums and exhibitions. Dr Somsaman highlighted the close relationship between NSM and SEAMEO STEM-ED, referencing past collaborative activities and projects between the organisations.

Following the presentation, the SEAMEO STEM-ED governing board members and representatives participated in a specially guided tour of selected highlights from NSM's museums, which included the Information Technology Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Rama 9 Museum. This tour allowed the GBMs to experience firsthand the interactive exhibits and educational programmes that NSM offers.

The visit culminated in productive discussions centred on future collaboration opportunities within the region, emphasising the potential for joint initiatives that leverage NSM’s resources and expertise to enhance STEM education across Southeast Asia.

This visit underscores SEAMEO STEM-ED’s commitment to fostering partnerships that promote regional development in science and technology. By exploring synergies with prominent institutions like NSM, SEAMEO STEM-ED aims to enhance the quality of STEM education and inspire the next generation of innovators in the region.
